Urge the Obama Administration to Protect Whales from Bush’s Midnight Attack The Bush Administration unleashed a barrage of last-minute rules that would allow the Navy to harass or injure thousands of whales and dolphins. Speak out now to reverse this dangerous policy.

As President Bush flew off into the sunset, his administration left behind three dangerous rules that would allow the Navy "to take" -- to harass, injure or kill -- marine mammals more than 10 million times over the next five years of sonar training.

We must speak out now and urge the Obama Administration to reverse this unconscionable attack on marine mammals.

If the Navy gets its way, its ships will flood millions of square miles of our oceans with mid-frequency active sonar -- without essential safeguards –- that is known to cause disorientation, hearing loss, stranding and death in whales.

The sheer scope of these dangerous rules is staggering, impacting many thousands of marine animals in the waters along the Eastern Seaboard, the Gulf of Mexico, California and Hawaii.

Killing even one whale is too much -- especially if it happens to be an endangered North American right whale. With only 300 or so right whales left, government scientists have concluded that the "loss of even a single individual right whale may contribute to the extinction of the species."

But harassing these vulnerable species more than 10 million times -- even by the Navy's estimates -- simply defies reason and conscience.

Make no mistake: the Navy does NOT need to put marine mammals at risk in order to protect the American people. It could take common sense precautions, such as avoiding whale calving grounds, migration corridors, and critical habitat.

These safeguards would in no way compromise the nation's military readiness. But, realistically, the Navy will continue conducting business as usual unless it's forced to change.

With a new administration taking office, we have an unprecedented opportunity right now to make sure that the Navy conducts its sonar training in an environmentally responsible manner.

Call on the Obama Administration to reverse the Bush rules so that thousands of whales and dolphins will be spared the ear-splitting noise of Navy sonar.

The following was written by Ben Stein and

 My confession:
 
 I am a Jew, and every single one o f my ancestors was Jewish.  And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees..  I don't feel threatened.  I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are:  Christmas trees.
 
 It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me.  I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto.  In fact, I kind of like it  It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu   If people want a cr�eche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.
 
 I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians.  I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around , period.   I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. 0I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.
 
 Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him?  I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too.   But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.
 
 In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different:  This is not intended to be a joke;  it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.
 
 Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Katrina) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response.  She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.  And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out.  How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'
 
 In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc.  I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.
 Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school.  The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself.  And we said OK.
 
 Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spock's son committed suicide).  We said an expert should know what he's talking about.  And we said OK.
 
 Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.
 
 Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out.  I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'
 
 Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell  Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.  Funny how you can send 'jokes ' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.  Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

 Are you laughing yet?

 Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.

 Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us..

 Pass it on if you think it has merit.  If not then just discard it... no one will know you did.  But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

Dear Children,

It has come to my attention that many you are upset that folks
are taking My name out of the season. Maybe you've forgotten
that I wasn't actually born during this time of the year and
that it was some of your predecessors who decided to celebrate
My birthday on what was actually a time of pagan festival.
Although I do appreciate being remembered anytime.

How I personally feel about this celebration can probably be
most easily understood by those of you who have been blessed
with children of your own.

I don't care what you call the day. If you want to celebrate
My birth, just GET ALONG AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

Now, having said that let Me go on. If it bothers you that the
town in which you live doesn't allow a scene depicting My
birth, then just get rid of a couple of Santa's and snowmen
and put in a small Nativity scene on your own front lawn. If
all My followers did that there wouldn't be any need for such
a scene on the town square because there would be many of them
all around town.

Stop worrying about the fact that people are calling the tree
a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas tree. It was I who made
all trees. You can remember Me anytime you see any tree.
Decorate a grape vine if you wish: I actually spoke of that
one in a teaching, explaining who I am in relation to you and
what each of our tasks were. If you have forgotten that one,
look up John 15: 1 - 8.

If you want to give Me a present in remembrance of My birth
here
is my wish list. Choose something from it:

1. Instead of writing protest letters objecting to the way My
birthday is being celebrated, write letters of love and hope
to soldiers away from home. They are terribly afraid and
lonely this time of year. I know, they tell Me all the time.

2. Visit someone in a nursing home. You don't have to know
them personally. They just need to know that someone cares
about them.

3. Instead of writing George complaining about the wording on
the cards his staff sent out this year, why don't you write
and tell him that you'll be praying for him and his family
this year. Then follow up. It will be nice hearing from you
again.

4. Instead of giving your children a lot of gifts you can't
afford and they don't need, spend time with them. Tell them
the story of My birth, and why I came to live with you down
here. Hold them in your arms and remind them that I love
them.

5. Pick someone that has hurt you in the past and forgive him
or her.

6. Did you know that someone in your town will attempt to take
their own life this season because they feel so alone and
hopeless? Since you don't know who that person is, try giving
everyone you meet a warm smile; it could make the difference.

7. Instead of nit picking about what the retailer in your town
calls the holiday, be patient with the people who work there.
Give them a warm smile and a kind word. Even if they aren't
allowed to wish you a "Merry Christmas" that doesn't keep you
from wishing them one. Then stop shopping there on Sunday.
If the store didn't make so much money on that day they'd
close and let their employees spend the day at home with their
families.

8. If you really want to make a difference, support a
missionary - especially one who takes My love and Good News to
those who have never heard My name.

9. Here's a good one. There are individuals and whole
families in your town who not only will have no "Christmas"
tree, but neither will they have any presents to give or
receive. If you don't know them, buy some foo
d and a few
gifts and give them to the Salvation Army or some other
charity which believes in Me and they will make the delivery
for you.

10. Finally, if you want to make a statement about your belief
in and loyalty to Me, then behave like a Christian. Don't do
things in secret that you wouldn't do in My presence. Let
people know by your actions that you are one of mine.

Don't forget; I am God and can take care of Myself. Just love
Me and do what I have told you to do. I'll take care of all
the rest.

Check out the list above and get to work; time is short. I'll
help you, but the ball is now in your court. And do have a
most blessed Christmas with all those whom you love and
remember:  I LOVE YOU, JESUS

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,

A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,

NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,

Does the United States really need a new nuclear warhead? According to the Bush Administration, it does, BUT WE NOW HAVE 50+ YEARS WORTH! BE A HERO!

Does the United States really need a new nuclear warhead? According to the Bush Administration, it does, even though the current nuclear stockpile is reasonably expected to last another 50 years or more.

Don't let our government foolishly embark on a new, unnecessary nuclear weapons program. »

The new warhead is supposed to be sturdy and reliable, but even Defense Secretary Gates admits the current stockpile remains "safe, secure, reliable." If that's the case, then building this new warhead is wasteful and the wrong direction for our country.
Especially when you consider that any decision to build new nuclear weapons would feed already deep suspicions about America’s motives and further undercut our efforts to contain the dangerous nuclear ambitions of North Korea, Iran and other nuclear wannabes. "Aerial predator control is a smoke screen for special interests. It's un-Alaskan, based on shaky science, and just plain wrong." - Alaska resident and hunter Nick Jans, Juneau, AK

In exploiting this loophole, the state of Alaska allows private hunters and private pilots to "control" wolves from the air or chase them to exhaustion and shoot them from the ground. The hunters are allowed to keep the pelts as trophies or sell them for profit instead of turning them over to wildlife officials.

This spring, Governor Palin went so far as to offer a reward of $150 for each left foreleg of wolves killed within designated areas. A state court identified this as a bounty, which is illegal under state law, and halted the program before any bounties were paid.

air quotes, Sen. McCain...really? "Be A Hero" by sharing this video with all the women you know, and those who love them so!

I was at a loss for words...but not surprised. I know John McCain doesn't respect women enough to allow us to makeour own reproductive decisions, but he callously dismissed health exceptions for women with sarcasm and air quotes. How NOT surprising is John McCain's response when asked if insurance companies should be required to cover birth control if they cover Viagra? He should be embarrassed & ashamed that he did not have the strength and conviction to admit the obvious. If insurance companies cover VIAGRA, a sexual stimulant, than insurances companies should definately cover BIRTH CONTROL. Instead, John McCain fumbled repeatedly, refusing to concede the obvious. While John McCain may not be able to remember the vote, I do - it wasn't that
long ago. In 2005, he voted against requiring insurance companies to cover
prescription birth control, even if they already cover drugs like Viagra.

It's such hypocrisy for a candidate to talk about how we need to prevent
abortion, but then to oppose improving access to birth control!

Ninety-eight percent of American women use birth control at some point in their
lives - and millions of them will be watching on Wednesday, trying to make up
their minds about the election. We can't let this opportunity slip away. In the
last presidential debate, with tens of millions of Americans watching, Sen.
McCain must be forced to explain his record.

The Interior Department has announced plans to undermine the Endangered Species Act by putting the responsibility of wildlife protection in the hands of federal agencies with little or no interest in protecting wildlife. The proposal would eliminate many current safeguards, including the routine scientific review of any agency action that may pose a threat to federally protected wildlife. These sweeping changes would have dire implications for gray wolves, polar bears, whales and countless other imperiled wildlife that take refuge in Greater Yellowstone, Alaska’s Tongass rainforest and other prized U.S. wildlands.
