SIGN PETITION to Tell Washington: Don’t Listen to the Lobbyists. Use Our Money for an Open Internet. BE A HERO & SAVE THE INTERNET!

Free Press Action Fund: Action Alert

Dear lynn,

"Under no circumstances should we use taxpayer money to fund high-speed Internet networks that aren’t open and neutral. This is our money and it should be used to build a better Internet for everyone."

Sign this Petition!

Sign the Petition

Buried deep in President Barack Obama's economic stimulus package is a line that should bring a smile to your face.

It says that billions of dollars must be spent to connect Americans to Internet services that meet "nondiscrimination and network interconnection obligations."

What does that mean? It means that we have won a key battle in our fight for Net Neutrality. The government must now demand that this money -- your money -- is spent the right way: on projects that abide by Net Neutrality principles.

But get this: Just as Washington is deciding to spend your tax dollars to connect millions of people to an open Internet, high-priced phone and cable company lobbyists are swooping in to change the rules, scrap the Net Neutrality requirements and stamp out consumer choice.

Tell Washington: Don’t Listen to the Lobbyists. Use Our Money for an Open Internet.

The agencies in charge of spending your money on broadband are convening public meetings to hear ideas from ordinary people. But the first meeting, held last week in Washington, was "packed to the rafters" with industry lobbyists. They created such noise at the event that public voices are in danger of being drowned out.

The final meeting is next week, on March 24. Please join thousands of other Net Neutrality supporters and sign the petition. Free Press will deliver your petitions in person at the final meeting. We promise to let our public officials know that Americans are counting on them to make sure our money only goes to build open, neutral Internet projects.

The petition says: "Under no circumstances should we use taxpayer money to fund high-speed Internet projects that aren’t open and neutral. This is our money, and it should be used to build a better Internet for everyone."

After you add your name, please forward this petition to friends and family to make sure we're heard.

We’ve proven that Washington can’t ignore us when we take action together. We have only one week to deliver this message, so please act now.

Thank you,

Urge President Obama & Congress to include Cancer Funding in the 2010 Budget! Breast Cancer SUSAN B KOMAN Activists RACE FOR THE CURE Be A Hero

action alert

Dear Lynn,

This week, President Obama made a pledge to:

"...launch a new effort to conquer a disease that has touched the life of nearly every American, including me, by seeking a cure for cancer in our time."

Tell Congress to honor that pledge by including cancer funding in the federal budget!

This is a critical time for cancer funding. Yesterday, President Obama presented his budget to Congress for the upcoming fiscal year. His proposal would dramatically boost funding for cancer research and now we need Congress to support it!

Urge Congress to include critical cancer funding in the 2010 budget!

Tuesday night, during his speech to Congress, President Obama pledged to:

"...launch a new effort to conquer a disease that has touched the life of nearly every American, including me, by seeking a cure for cancer in our time."

But, if our leaders in Congress fail to include critical funding for cancer provisions in the federal budget, we will fail to meet the promise of the President's pledge. That's why we need your help.

Please write your leaders in Congress and tell them you support funding for cancer initiatives in the 2010 budget.

Last year during our I Vote for the Cure campaign, over 100,000 dedicated Komen Activists took action – demanding that our leaders make ending breast cancer a national priority. Thanks to those efforts, the government included additional funding for cancer research in the economic recovery package.

This was a good first step, but the stimulus funding is temporary. In order to ensure we realize the dream of one day finding the cures for cancer, we must make permanent provisions that will:

  • Increase investments in science and research. The economic stimulus package boosted funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Cancer Institute (NCI). While this reverses a six-year trend of declining budgets, this temporary investment must be matched by a long-term commitment to clinical research.
  • Close the gap in access to early detection services. Current funding for the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program allows less than one in five eligible women to be screened for cancer. Additional funding will help thousands more women receive potentially life-saving screening services.
  • Help patients navigate the U.S. health care system. The Patient Navigator Program helps patients navigate the often complex and confusing health care system. This important program helps coordinate care between general practitioners, radiologists, oncologists and others. However, under-funding threatens this key component in care and treatment for cancer.

Congress will debate and vote on the budget soon. Click here TODAY and urge our leaders to include vital cancer funding in the new budget.

Thanks for all that you do. Together, we can one day end the suffering and death caused by cancer.

Sincerely,

Martina A. Hone

SIGN PETITION: President Bush Issued a dangerous and misguided "conscience" regulation that jeopardizes a woman's access to birth control...REVERSE IT

care2 petitionsite actionAlert

As one of their final acts in office, the Bush Administration issued a dangerous and misguided "conscience" regulation that jeopardizes a woman's access to birth control and other medically necessary health care services and information.

This regulation opens the door for insurance plans, hospitals, anti-choice doctors, nurses – even administrative staff like receptionists – to undermine patient access to the information and advice they expect and need. Take action to reverse this ill-conceived regulation today »

While President Obama put a freeze on many of Bush's midnight regulations as soon as he could, this regulation slipped through the door and went into effect the day before Obama took office. Its status is in a legal limbo, but the last thing we need is uncertainty around a woman's right to accessing birth control and other necessary health care.

You can help protect reproductive rights. Urge President Obama to give the misguided "conscience" regulation a good swift kick out the door – once and for all.

Thanks for taking action!

Tell President Obama to Protect Women's Access to Birth Control
Help overturn the misguided 'conscience' regulations.
Take Action!
Instead of balancing the needs of health professionals and patients, the regulation gives medical providers the ability to refuse to provide health services and information they deem objectionable – even in emergency situations. We need your help to overturn this regulation.
