action alert

Dear Lynn,

Support young women with breast cancer.

Urge your senators to co-sponsor the EARLY Act.

Click here to send your letter NOW!

Cancer survivors and advocates gathered in Washington, D.C. last week and made our voices heard on behalf of all Americans whose lives have been affected by cancer – and with your help, we sure made a lot of noise!

In the nation's capital and across the country, thousands of advocates like you did their part to support key cancer priorities including the 21st Century Cancer ALERT Act and the Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Requires Learning Young (EARLY) Act.

TODAY, thanks in part to your efforts, one of those priorities, the EARLY Act, was introduced in the Senate.

Can we count on you to help ensure it passes? Click here and urge your senators to support young women with breast cancer by co-sponsoring the EARLY Act of 2009.

When breast cancer is detected early, the five-year survival rate is 98 percent. But, when breast cancer occurs in women under the age of 40, it is often detected at later stages, is more likely to be aggressive, and may be less responsive to hormone therapies.

The EARLY Act will help improve the odds by addressing these unique concerns in three ways:

  • Public education. The bill will initiate an evidence-based public education campaign about breast cancer in women under age 40 – with an emphasis on women at higher risk due to their race, ethnicity or genetic heritage.
  • Resources for health professionals. The bill will educate health care professionals about the risk factors, opportunities for genetic counseling and testing, and unique challenges that face young women diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Support services. The bill will provide grants to organizations that provide credible health information directed to young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

The EARLY Act has already been introduced in the House and has received overwhelming support. In fact, almost 300 House members have signed on to become co-sponsors. But, to ensure the EARLY Act passes the Senate and makes it to President Obama's desk, your senators need to hear from YOU!

Please take a moment to write your senators today and urge them to co-sponsor the EARLY Act.

Thank you for all that you do. Together we can one day end the suffering and death caused by cancer.

Sincerely,

Ambassador Nancy Brinker
