Dear crisci,

You may be familiar with case of actor Dennis Quaid, whose infant twins almost died when they were injected with a massive dose of blood thinner. The adult and baby doses were similarly packaged, leading to the mix-up. Quaid went public, and the hospital installed a computerized medication system to prevent future errors.

But most medical errors are kept secret. Ten years ago, the Institute of Medicine called for immediate action to end errors like this but very little progress has been made since then. Every year our leaders ignore these errors, another 100,000 Americans needlessly die and $17 billion is spent treating them.

Sign our petition to stop the secrecy and prevent medical errors. Help us push for less talk and more action!

Your money, your priorities
Congress votes this week on a budget blueprint to get us more affordable, reliable health coverage. But some want to ignore the health care problem and push it down the road -- just like they did with our financial troubles. Tell Congress to open their eyes and make a down payment on health reform.

Stop runaway financial greed
Billions of our tax dollars have bailed out the lending industry, but loopholes let some operators charge 400% interest for certain types of loans. It’s the financial “Wild West,” and there’s no sheriff in town. Tell Congress to bring responsibility back to our financial system.

Slash your prescription drug costs
Tired of ‘sticker shock’ each time you pick up a prescription? Learn about affordable alternatives to high priced medicines at Consumer Reports Health, or order the new Best Drugs for Less magazine that can help you save big $$$ on prescriptions.

Had food poisoning?
If so, we want to hear your story. Our leaders are finally getting serious about food safety now that nine people died from eating tainted peanut products. We want to make sure they know what’s really happening every time you eat. Tell us your food poisoning story.
