Does the United States really need a new nuclear warhead? According to the Bush Administration, it does, even though the current nuclear stockpile is reasonably expected to last another 50 years or more.

The new warhead is supposed to be sturdy and reliable, but even Defense Secretary Gates admits the current stockpile remains "safe, secure, reliable." If that's the case, then building this new warhead is wasteful and the wrong direction for our country.
Especially when you consider that any decision to build new nuclear weapons would feed already deep suspicions about America’s motives and further undercut our efforts to contain the dangerous nuclear ambitions of North Korea, Iran and other nuclear wannabes. Our safety depends on less nuclear weapons, not more.
