DEATH OF A BAND, The Retiring Musician & The Stages Of Grief. A Bad Band Break-up can be like the end of a relationship...or the death of a relative. POP SUPERHERO Be A Hero & be there for the musicians in your life. Power Of Pink COOKIE CUTTER GIRL

MUSIC MONDAY...
I HATE MONDAYS!

Today's "Happy Monday" topic is:
DEATH OF A BAND & The Stages Of Grief.

A Bad Band Break-up and the retiring musician, can be as complicated as the end of a relationship...
and as traumatic as the death of a relative. Be A Hero & be there for the musicians in your life.
I lost my band, which was my LIFE, (16 hours a day, 7 days a week) after a tragic stage accident.
(My Band: COOKIE CUTTER GIRL: POP SUPERHERO)

It took me MANY YEARS to get through all the "Stages Of Grief:"
Denial,
Anger, Bargaining, Depression & Acceptance.
The first year after my band broke up was full of the first 4 stages of grief:
DENIAL, ANGER, BARGAINING & DEPRESSION.
The second year found me less in denial, full of anger, depressed, and bargaining.
The third year, I was done with denial, less angry, but still depressed & bargaining.
The fourth year held no denial, and less anger, depression & bargaining.
I'm in my fifth year of being a retired musician now...and, finally...
I am starting to work on ACCEPTANCE about the loss of my band.
NOTE: "Acceptance" does NOT mean I'll never sing or play again.
It simply means that I "accept" that MY BAND will never do so again.

A friend of mine, who is a professional, full-time musician,
just had her band break-up...again...and decided NOT to reform it this time.

Knowing what she must be going through, I wrote her the letter below.
After I sent it, I wondered, "How many others are going through this too?"
That thought prompted me to share my letter through my BLOG.
I have a many years of experience with the "Death Of A Band,"
and feel my loss and grieving would have more purpose if it helped others.
I welcome my readers to POST YOUR STORIES HERE!
Your "Band Break-Up" or "Retired Musician" tales will help others to transition
from being a "musician" to a "Mom," "Mr Mom," "Grand Mom" or "Grand Dad."

HERE IS MY LETTER TO THE RETIRING MUSICIAN:

CONGRATS: Awareness of your true & present feelings
is the 1st step to your true happiness! *smile*
I would look at this as an exciting new beginning
of the BIG ADVENTURE that is the rest of your life.

I panicked that something awful had happened.
The event cancellation really hit me HARD
with negative energy...I'm "sensitive" like that.
I felt a big fight (member quitting)...or sickness.

You are going to go through a "mourning phase"
over the loss of your band...which make take YEARS.
It's OK though. You MUST go through all the stage of grief.
I feel like I could give lectures on "band loss" & "grief," LOL

Congratulations on your new journey...I'm happy for you!
I don't expect you to be happy for you for quite a long time,
but I will be happy FOR you until you're get "there."
As for me, it took me almost 4 YEARS, but I am in pain,
and loss my band via a serious stage accident.
I expect you will be faster at getting through this loss than me.

Call or email me & tell me all about what you're feeling...

Strength Through Unity,

Lynn

The 5 Stages of Grief:

Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression & Acceptance

An excerpt from the book, "On Death and Dying,"
by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross & David Kessler

Denial

This first stage of grieving helps us to survive the loss. In this stage, the world becomes meaningless and overwhelming. Life makes no sense. We are in a state of shock and denial. We go numb. We wonder how we can go on, if we can go on, why we should go on. We try to find a way to simply get through each day. Denial and shock help us to cope and make survival possible. Denial helps us to pace our feelings of grief. There is a grace in denial. It is nature’s way of letting in only as much as we can handle.
As you accept the reality of the loss and start to ask yourself questions, you are unknowingly beginning the healing process. You are becoming stronger, and the denial is beginning to fade. But as you proceed, all the feelings you were denying begin to surface.

Anger

Anger is a necessary stage of the healing process. Be willing to feel your anger, even though it may seem endless. The more you truly feel it, the more it will begin to dissipate and the more you will heal. There are many other emotions under the anger and you will get to them in time, but anger is the emotion we are most used to managing. The truth is that anger has no limits. It can extend not only to your friends, the doctors, your family, yourself and your loved one who died, but also to God. You may ask, “Where is God in this?
Underneath anger is pain, your pain. It is natural to feel deserted and abandoned, but we live in a society that fears anger. Anger is strength and it can be an anchor, giving temporary structure to the nothingness of loss. At first grief feels like being lost at sea: no connection to anything. Then you get angry at someone, maybe a person who didn’t attend the funeral, maybe a person who isn’t around, maybe a person who is different now that your loved one has died. Suddenly you have a structure – - your anger toward them. The anger becomes a bridge over the open sea, a connection from you to them. It is something to hold onto; and a connection made from the strength of anger feels better than nothing. We usually know more about suppressing anger than feeling it. The anger is just another indication of the intensity of your love.

Bargaining

Before a loss, it seems like you will do anything if only your loved one would be spared. “Please God, ” you bargain, “I will never be angry at my wife again if you’ll just let her live.” After a loss, bargaining may take the form of a temporary truce. “What if I devote the rest of my life to helping others. Then can I wake up and realize this has all been a bad dream?”
We become lost in a maze of “If only…” or “What if…” statements. We want life returned to what is was; we want our loved one restored. We want to go back in time: find the tumor sooner, recognize the illness more quickly, stop the accident from happening…if only, if only, if only. Guilt is often bargaining’s companion. The “if onlys” cause us to find fault in ourselves and what we “think” we could have done differently. We may even bargain with the pain. We will do anything not to feel the pain of this loss. We remain in the past, trying to negotiate our way out of the hurt. People often think of the stages as lasting weeks or months. They forget that the stages are responses to feelings that can last for minutes or hours as we flip in and out of one and then another. We do not enter and leave each individual stage in a linear fashion. We may feel one, then another and back again to the first one.

Depression

After bargaining, our attention moves squarely into the present. Empty feelings present themselves, and grief enters our lives on a deeper level, deeper than we ever imagined. This depressive stage feels as though it will last forever. It’s important to understand that this depression is not a sign of mental illness. It is the appropriate response to a great loss. We withdraw from life, left in a fog of intense sadness, wondering, perhaps, if there is any point in going on alone? Why go on at all? Depression after a loss is too often seen as unnatural: a state to be fixed, something to snap out of. The first question to ask yourself is whether or not the situation you’re in is actually depressing. The loss of a loved one is a very depressing situation, and depression is a normal and appropriate response. To not experience depression after a loved one dies would be unusual. When a loss fully settles in your soul, the realization that your loved one didn’t get better this time and is not coming back is understandably depressing. If grief is a process of healing, then depression is one of the many necessary steps along the way.

Acceptance

Acceptance is often confused with the notion of being “all right” or “OK” with what has happened. This is not the case. Most people don’t ever feel OK or all right about the loss of a loved one. This stage is about accepting the reality that our loved one is physically gone and recognizing that this new reality is the permanent reality. We will never like this reality or make it OK, but eventually we accept it. We learn to live with it. It is the new norm with which we must learn to live. We must try to live now in a world where our loved one is missing. In resisting this new norm, at first many people want to maintain life as it was before a loved one died. In time, through bits and pieces of acceptance, however, we see that we cannot maintain the past intact. It has been forever changed and we must readjust. We must learn to reorganize roles, re-assign them to others or take them on ourselves.
Finding acceptance may be just having more good days than bad ones. As we begin to live again and enjoy our life, we often feel that in doing so, we are betraying our loved one. We can never replace what has been lost, but we can make new connections, new meaningful relationships, new inter-dependencies. Instead of denying our feelings, we listen to our needs; we move, we change, we grow, we evolve. We may start to reach out to others and become involved in their lives. We invest in our friendships and in our relationship with ourselves. We begin to live again, but we cannot do so until we have given grief its time.

Miracle Baby Comes Back To Life After Being Dead For 2 HOURS... Way to BE A HERO, MOM! Mother Revives Dead Baby With Only Human Touch! POP SUPERHERO

WOMEN'S WEDNESDAY came a day early!
I know it's only Tuesday, but this is too good to wait.

HOW CAN YOU "BE A HERO" TODAY...
HUG THE ONE YOU'RE WITH...then read on pass it on.

Miracle Baby Comes Back To Life
After Being Dead For 2 HOURS...
Way to BE A HERO, MOM!

This is NOT some sensationalized headline used to make you look at web ads. This is a REAL MIRACLE. A Mother in Australia brought her 27 week old son, born prematurely, back to life by merely holding him against her skin for 2 hours. Doctors had declared the baby dead 2 hours before, and given him to his Mother simply for her to say goodbye.

What does this mean to us as a race? I think it means we do not value human touch enough, nor do we know enough about the effect of touch on the human condition. Yes, of course we know that being touched feels good. But, does it DO good for our body in more ways than we realize? I say YES!

Our tax dollars are used by our government every year in studies that we never hear about, and might not care about either. I hope some of the money goes to study human touch and it's effect on our present and future mental and physical health. I have SO many questions that only long term studies can truly answer, and only then to a small degree. We may never know the true value of the this free, yet priceless, gift we are all born with.

Do babies who are touched more go on to suffer less
mental and/or physical health issues in the future?

Do babies raised by a nanny get touched more, less or equal
to babies raised by their parents full-time?

Do babies who go to day care & pre-school get touched as much
as babies raised by their parents full-time?

Does touch by nannies, teachers and other children have
the same effect on our body and mind as touch by our parents?

Early Puberty in Girls: What Are the Social Consequences? 25% OF GIRLS REACH PUBERTY AT 7! Girl Power BE A HERO Power of Pink POP SUPERHERO

It's FREEBIE FRIDAY & I've got some advice:
DON'T help your kids to grow up too fast.
Tell girls they're beautiful...EVERY DAY...
or they'll think they need make-up...at 7?

Early Puberty in Girls: What Are the Social Consequences?

Print Text Size
A friend of mine took her 5-year-old to see the doctor last summer. She was concerned because she noticed that when her daughter came home from camp at the end of the day, she smelled . . . like a grown-up. "It's the weirdest thing," she confided to me. "She's only 5, but I think she has body odor."

The doctor was reassuring but told her to keep an eye on her daughter. Apparently, among a handful of other symptoms -- early breast development, pubic and underarm hair, and a growth spurt -- body odor can be a sign of early-onset puberty.

"But she's only 5!" my friend protested.

"You'd be surprised," the doctor said. "Just be sure that you monitor her development carefully."

At the time, my friend's story struck me as bizarre. But a new study released this week in the Journal Pediatrics shows that her experience wasn't so unusual. More and more girls are reaching puberty at a younger age, sometimes as early as 7 or 8.

The study, led by a team of researchers at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, found that at the age of 7, 23.4 percent of African- American girls, 14.9 percent of Hispanics and 10.4 percent of white girls had developed breasts. By 8, those proportions had risen to 42.9 percent, 30.9 percent and 18.3 percent, respectively. The percentages for blacks and whites were even higher than those found by a 1997 study that was one of the first to suggest that puberty was occurring earlier in girls.

While the causes of this trend are unknown, one chief culprit is thought to be obesity. Body fat produces estrogen, which in turn triggers breast development and menstruation. Another possibility are endocrine-disrupting chemicals in the environment -- such as bisphenol-A (BPA) -- which is found in many hard plastic products, including water bottles and baby bottles.

There are plenty of reasons to worry about the adverse consequences of early-onset puberty for the girls themselves. For starters, the risk of breast cancer may be increased by longer exposure to estrogen. Early development has also been shown to cause low self-esteem and doubts about body image in girls, as well as greater rates of eating disorders depression and attempted suicide. And in a society where there's already quite a bit of anxiety about the over-sexualization of girls, early onset puberty can only make matters worse, as girls are prematurely forced to confront their sexuality.

But as this trend unfolds, I can't help but also wonder about its broader social consequences.

For starters, what about boys? Boys can also experience "precocious puberty" (as it's known in the trade), although reliable estimates of the frequency of early puberty in boys have not been published. Several medical centers have reported that they evaluate between one-fifth and one-tenth as many boys as girls for sexual precocity. Whether early puberty in boys is becoming more common over time, as is the case in girls, is also unclear. But if it's true that early puberty is more prevalent in girls than in boys, then that's likely to create an odd gender dynamic between the sexes from an early age.

I also wonder what will become of those girls who mature at a later age. If we begin to normalize puberty as something that happens in elementary school, what sorts of self-esteem and body image issues will crop up for that dwindling majority of girls who don't hit puberty until 12 or 13?

Earlier puberty in girls will also necessitate (yet another) rethink of sex ed in schools -- both how early to cover it and what needs to be said. Parents will also need to recalibrate their children's reading lists to introduce them to this topic in an age-appropriate way. It's hard to imagine Judy Blume's classic, "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret," working for a 7-year-old.

Finally, I also suspect that the results of this study will end up getting dragged into the ongoingMommy Wars over breastfeeding. To the extent that the plastic chemical in baby bottles is in any way a contributor to the early puberty trend, it will provide further ammunition to those who've always maintained that "breast is best." And women who didn't breastfeed at all or fear that they didn't do it long enough will now over-analyze whether they should have done things differently.

In short, there are a host of social questions that get raised when girls hit puberty ever earlier that we've only begun to address.

In the meantime, my friend watches . . . and waits.

COMPUTERS DE-HUMANIZE US & OUR EMAILS

I started http://VelvetChokers.com way back in 1998...in the early years of the web. People were less trusting of sending money via the internet and usually happy they received their product from me at all, LOL.

Since then, customers have become inhumane, unreasonable, demanding and spoiled by huge sites like Amazon.com. I'd get scathing letters from people that because the custom made-to-order jewelry they purchased on Sunday had not arrived by Wednesday!

I KNOW these so-called civilized folks would never speak to a customer service rep. this way in person...not even in a Walmart, LOL. Computers dehumanize us and make it *seem* OK to vent without remorse at strangers. After all, you'll never have to own your words, let alone eat them, as you'll never have to meet the person you dumped on via email...sometimes simply because you had a bad day.

May Karma catch up with anyone who does not live by this simple rule: treat others the way you want to be treated...period.

I'm glad we have WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH, but...

If we did not CUT MOST of the STRONG WOMEN OUT

We shouldn't need a "Special Month" to learn about them!

I have found the BOOKS I'VE READ *after* HS & college
*much* more truthful, about WOMEN'S IMPORTANT ROLES
in creating and changing the world that we live in today,
than the "American History" books I was assigned at school.

In honor of WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH,

Bad Health Care Bill Penalizes Women: More Amendments Limiting Reproductive Health Care and Excessive Premium Rates for Older Women! BE A HERO

Bad Health Care Bill Penalizes Women: More Amendments Limiting Reproductive Health Care and Excessive Premium Rates for Older Women

Tell your senators -- health care reform can't restrict women's rights!
take action

After taking action, pleasesupport our work!

Action Needed:

Consideration of Senate Finance Committee Chair Sen. Max Baucus' (D-Mont.) proposed legislation to reform our broken health care system continues this week. Please send a message to your senators today urging them to oppose all restrictive amendments that would limit women's access to reproductive health care and to withdraw discriminatory provisions that would charge women (and men), aged 40 to 64, five times (!) the average premium amount charged to younger persons. Also, stress the need for the legislation to offer a strong public health insurance plan; Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W. Va.) is set to soon offer an amendment that would establish a public health insurance plan.

Take action now!

Background:

The Senate Finance Committee is considering amendments this week to a bill that is the health insurance industry's dream legislation. NOW opposes this bill, primarily because it does not offer a public health insurance option and because there are many onerous and costly provisions. More than 500 amendments have been offered, including a number that would further restrict access to reproductive health services. Other parts of the bill would require unaffordable insurance plans, mandate coverage with penalties for persons without insurance, write age discrimination into law, require taxpayers to pay billions in subsidies to private health insurers and fail to include a public health insurance option -- something a majority of the public has said they want.

The amendments offered by opponents of women's reproductive health care include: restoration of abstinence-only education, adopting a conscience clause, no pre-emption of state laws regarding abortion, no federal funds for abortion and others. Abortion services is the one of the most common medical procedures provided in the U.S., yet these amendments attempt to further stigmatize and marginalize this component of basic women's health care. There may well be an effort to prohibit coverage of abortion services in all private health insurance plans.

Protect women's reproductive health care -- take action now!

Chairman Baucus and the insurance companies want persons aged 40 to 64 to pay an exorbitant amount for coverage -- arguing that it is this age group that needs more care and should pay more. Middle-age women might see themselves paying four or five times the amount a younger person is paying for coverage. The reason that insurers would like this enormous hike in premium amount is that they say they must recoup income to pay for their losses due to new prohibitions against dropping people for pre-existing conditions and for stopping higher charges for women because of maternity care. This 5:1 (other plans have 2:1) charge will result in unaffordable premiums for millions of boomers and billions of dollars that will have to be covered by taxpayers in the form of subsidies.

Add this gigantic subsidy to insurers along with the hundreds of billions in income from the 50 million formerly-uninsured new customers now mandated to buy private insurance and you're talking real money. It's clear that the insurance industry is calling the shots.

Send a message to your senators to oppose any further restrictions on women's reproductive health care, to withdraw a provision that would impose dramatically higher premium costs for middle-age women and men and to support a public health insurance plan.
